Amy’s Journey

I’ve studied and experienced so many things, not just as an academic or at university, but as a real life body living through them. Feeling what worked, feeling what didn’t. Experiencing when it felt like someone had real value to offer and was as passionate about my genuine recovery as I was. Also experiencing when someone was just fobbing me off or withholding the real tools from me to get me to become a long term client.  

How long have you been doing what you do and how did you get to be an expert in this? 

The best way for me to answer this is for me to tell you my story in brief: I used to work in an office, long hours at a desk, and I started to get back, neck, shoulder and hip pain. I ignored it for a good while, until it got worse. At its highest intensity, I was demonstrating a squat for a client (a move I repeated 1000s of times) and wasn’t sure if I was going to get back up.

I styled it out and did get back up. The next day, I couldn’t get out of bed using my legs. I had to press myself up off a water bottle with my arms. A few days later, I was diagnosed with a bulging disc. To be completely honest, it felt like my life and my career was over. How could anyone take me seriously when I was ‘this badly injured’? Would I ever train like I did again?

After a few serious talking tos, from myself and loved ones, training without touching any weights for 3 months, a load of rehab and a real change in lifestyle and mindset, the nerve pain/ sciatica which had beset me, started to fade away.

I chose to push myself deep into all of the things that had caused first the relatively benign, yet annoying, aches and pains, and then later, the serious debilitating pain and loss of movement. I’ve studied and experienced so many things, not just as an academic or at university, but as a real life body living through them. Feeling what worked, feeling what didn't.

Working with a diverse selection of other professionals and pulling bits from a variety of methods to build The Warrior Programme and our process. I built an adaptable and comprehensive box of tools that empowered me to take control of my own journey with pain and movement and now we’re here to share them with you.

I know how shit it feels not to feel in control of your body. To not be able to do the things you want to do. To feel held back. Like you’re not truly reaching your fullest potential. That feeling literally kills me and it’s our mission to get you out of there too.

Who are The Warrior Programme’s clients exactly?
We work with people just like you – busy, stressed professionals who struggle to find the time and motivation to exercise consistently. Who have regular aches and pains in their back, neck, knees, hips or shoulders. They’ve been to see a physio or chiropractor in the past, but they still have the problem. They often feel tired and sluggish, running out of energy at 3pm and feeling like they’ve nothing left by the time Friday evening hits. They know the long hours at a desk, stress and lack of time out isn’t doing them any good, but they feel stuck in terms of what they need to do and even believing it could ever change. At the same time, they know it’s not going to get any better if they don’t do anything about it. They’re in their 30s, 40s and 50s and they want to ensure they move through the ageing process with as much strength and control as possible. They’re ready for change, ready to invest in themselves and to implement guidance that serves them to get them the results and the experience of their body that they want.
How is The Warrior Programme different from other ‘personal trainers’?
We’re different because this is what we do. We don’t do weight loss, before and afters, bikini bodies, military-style fitness, circuits, aerobics, spin or any other fitness methodology. We help people just like you and that’s it. Our process has been developed over the past 6 years to do just that. We’re here to do one thing and we do it to a world class standard. We start with our process (which makes getting the results you want very reliable and efficient) and then tailor it to you as an individual. It’s all about you - your body and all it has experienced, your challenges, your results. We match you with 1-2 coaches who will get you and what you value, as opposed to funneling you down the ‘what you should do in the gym’ route. We recruit our coaches very, very carefully and thoroughly, so the screening process has been done for you - you know you’re working with a team who will care for and support you and deliver exactly what they say they will.
What type of personality do you work best with and what is expected of me?
We have high standards for the kinds of clients we work with and we need for you to be motivated to follow through on what we recommend to you, to ensure you get the results we can help you get. We work best with a driven, target-orientated personality. Someone who has decided enough is enough of what they are experiencing right now and is ready to effect change. They know that if they don’t do anything differently, they will be in the same place or worse in a year’s time. They’re not willing to let that happen. We will expect you to put in the work. To work hard in sessions, to complete the home training plan in full, to communicate openly and honestly with us. Nothing unreasonable or outside what your lifestyle allows - it’s all bespoke to you. To be willing to consider a new way of thinking and receive full support from us. We are with you every step of the way.
For what type of person is this programme NOT going to work?

Please know we’re very selective in who we work with and we cherry-pick our clients, choosing to gently turn

away people who aren’t suited for our programmes and won’t get the results for which they would have signed up for. It wouldn’t be fair to run this show in any other way.

The Warrior Programme© won’t work for you if you regularly make excuses for not getting something done, or like to challenge every aspect of a process. You need to be willing to see things differently than you have to date and to challenge yourself, for us to be able to help you to get the results that you want. We are here to support you and help you with accountability, but you need to be self-motivated in going after what you want.

If you ‘just need a kick up the bum’ or you need someone else to make you do what you say you want, our Programme isn’t for you. If you’re looking for ‘personal training’ by paying an hourly rate to exercise with

someone, or are involved in a price comparison to see who is ‘cheapest’, it’s also very unlikely that our values will align. Similarly, if losing weight is your main goal, we celebrate that for you and encourage you to find a coach who specifically does that, as it’s not where we focus. If you’re feeling that perhaps we may not be a fit after reading this, we lovingly and respectfully ask that you not call and we hope you understand why. We’ll be unlikely to work well together and we wouldn’t want you to waste your time or money.

How quickly can I expect results?
This depends on where you are when you come to us and how fast you implement the recommendations that we give you. Also on how intensive a dive you choose to go into with us. If you follow through on what we recommend, you will achieve what you want to. There are, of course, individual differences, but you can have the reasonable expectation to begin to see the results you want within the first couple of months, in the form of fewer aches and pains, better posture, more consistent training and feeling stronger. Gareth, for example, saw his back pain, which had been continuing for years and he had attempted various other forms of ‘treatment’ to limited avail, disappear within 6 weeks of training with us!
How can I guarantee myself that I will get rid of aches and pains and get stronger, in record time?
Implement our recommendations diligently and consistently. Be totally focused on following our advice and creating changes. Understand that it’s not a “quick fix,” it’s not magic and it takes up to a year for you to plant all the seeds and for those seeds to grow into the fruit that you can enjoy. All our clients who have diligently applied every step of our Programme have successfully got stronger, got rid of aches and pains and got great posture in much less time than they would have on their own or with other systems.
Does this really work?
Yes! Our results come from a tried and tested formula and way of working, which we have built over the past 6 years. A process which is repeatable time and time again. (See Client Testimonials separately.)
I have a family and a busy life. Although I want to get stronger and rid of achesand pains, I don't have much time tospare. How much time do I need?

Many of our clients have jam-packed schedules and that is often why they work with us. Our objective is to help you achieve the best possible results in the smallest amount of time possible. It’s not about spending hours in the gym. We start with a system which we have used for many, many clients just like you with

similar challenges. This means that we can predict in most cases from the very start exactly what you will need to get to where you want to be. As opposed to working with a more general solution, this means that we are very efficient and the results happen faster.

Similarly, if your schedule is very busy, I imagine you also don’t have time to waste. Why wait for your situation to get worse and therefore more difficult and more time - consuming to resolve? Our clients often, before they start working with us, are getting to do very little by themselves and so it’s almost inevitable that their situation will continue and/or worsen. We go straight in with solutions, saving you time with experimenting and/or trying other potential solutions which end up not working for you, plus the discomfort and frustration that you may be experiencing already. Becky Bengey had this concern before she started working with us and now she says: ‘TWP Is very accessible and so despite being busy with a full time job and a toddler I can still fit in the sessions, and find the time to do the home program.

What is your gym like?

We're based in our own private gym space in the centre of Bristol (right next to Temple Meads station) with easy access and parking nearby (Temple Gate or RingGo behind Temple Meads or behind Fowlers motorbike shop)

We have 2 clients, 2 trainers in there at any one time with a full COVID cleaning and safety policy. We have not to date (July 2021) had a single case of COVID related to the gym and we have a very high degree of control over who is in our space and their situation.

We’re a personal training (1-2-1) only gym and we don’t offer standalone membership. It’s truly a personal and comfortable experience that will work well for you if you don’t like the busyness and machismo of a big gym.

Everything we have is free weights - no machines (you don’t need them and they’re often an unhelpful distraction).

Can I continue working with you if we end up in another lockdown?
Absolutely. We’ve been coaching clients through lockdown online and getting fantastic results – lifetime personal bests, getting rid of aches and pains and feeling in control despite the craziness around. We’re geared up and ready to continue our work seamlessly and all our packages include this as a capability. It’s not about the gym. It’s about our process and your results. All of this continues beautifully online.
Are you fully back in the gym now or are you still doing coaching online?
We are doing a beautiful blend of both! The gym is now fully open which is wonderful and so all of our packages include 50% of your training in the gym - getting the benefits of the kit and the environment - and 50% online - giving you the benefit of the time efficiency and the ability to build a routine and understanding with your own training set up at home. Working with us, you do not need to join a big gym to get the results you want, which we think is a major benefit.
Does online coaching really work?

We get that you may have some scepticisms about online training. Here are some of the common ones:

I’m worried it’ll be noisy or disruptive...
In brief, it won’t be. We won’t do any training which causes excessive noise – other than talking, sessions are pretty quiet. You choose the place in your home that works for you space-wise, all we need is a space the size of a yoga mat. We encourage that you let others at home know what you’re doing and between what time frame and nothing we do together will disturb them.

I’m worried it’ll be boring...
Again, in brief, it won’t be! We help our clients get results because we work with a tried and tested process and we are all fantastic coaches! You don’t get results because of just the gym or the kit - it’s a lovely addition but by no means an essential. Trust us to mix it up for you and to ensure that we’ll add real value to your coaching.

I could just watch a YouTube video...
Have you ever watched a YouTube training video? Was it personalised or tailored towards you and your goals and needs? Did watching the video, or having the potential to be able to watch it, ensure you had the accountability and structure to get the work done? We bet the answer to all of these questions is a big no. As coaches ourselves, we are highly motivated and knowledgeable about achieving results, yet none of us have achieved what we have from watching remote videos. This is why we’re so passionate about individual coaching – because it is what works! We will take the coaching and bespoke approach we do with you face to face and run that show, simply through a different medium and with different kit. The format and the kit isn’t why we are successful with our clients. It is because of the coaches and how we do things.

I don’t have much (or any) kit...
This is totally fine – many of the clients have very limited kit or even none in some cases. Trust us that when you try working with your bodyweight, it will be a significant challenge. If you doubt us on this, type in ‘calisthenics’ online and have a watch! This is purely bodyweight training. We already use a lot of bodyweight training modalities with you in the gym. Working online with no or limited kit, simply means we dial up the presence of this approach. As always, completely tailored to you and where you want to get to. In time, if you would like to invest in pieces of equipment, this is entirely up to you and won’t be enforced by us.

I’m worried I won’t make as much progress if I’m not in the gym all the time ...
Everyone who we have coached online has made huge progress – towards their goals, not in the abstract – doing just what we’re going to be doing with you. They were all delighted by it. Then, when they did train in the gym (remember, you’re in the gym 50% of the time), they hit lifetime PBs in just a matter of weeks! The combination of the two works beautifully.

We don’t have expectations of you when you arrive and we’re not here to pass judgement on where you are. Very few of our clients arrive even halfway to where they want to be and this is fantastic!

It’s our role to evaluate the gap between where you are now and where you want to be and take you through that process compassionately and efficiently. It doesn’t matter where you are now. All that matters is that you want better for yourself and we’re here to support you to do that.

A lot of our clients have felt concerned about this before they’ve started working with us - they've tried various things, had physio, seen chiropractors, joined gyms, read books - and been disappointed. It’s very frustrating, we understand that.

The Warrior Programme© is a tried and tested formula (both by ourselves and our clients) as the foundation and then every programme is tailored to be bespoke to you and your goals. We have a highly experienced coaching team and we simply don’t allow room for gaps.

How long is the Programme?
We have different options depending on where you want to get to, how committed you are to those goals and how fast you want to get there. Please expect to spend a minimum of 6 months with us to get to where you want to be.
Do you accept credit cards?
We do. Many clients use credit cards to make the investment in themselves. There are also many 0% deals available, including from Paypal, which we are able to process. Sometimes using credit can be a fantastic tool to make a start on something that will truly change your life. You can then manage your finances effectively over the months to come.
What exactly is The Warrior Programme© and what does it include?

We’re a private set up with a huge amount of control over regulating our space. As far as we and our policy are concerned, we are a very safe bet in terms of COVID risks.

This is for current Warriors – who have trained with us on one of the above two packages – to continue their work towards the results they want, with more focus on training solo.

  • Bespoke home training programme to work on in between sessions, tailored around your lifestyle
  • Weekly phone check ins with your coach (15 min scheduled calls)
